What is Cloud Computing

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is the future of IT. But first of all what is it?   Cloud computing is the external storing and accessing of applications and associated data via the internet, rather than through your own infrastructure. Progression in its usage, for the near future (3 years – by 2019) will enable not just big companies but also small and medium size ones to use it.    Therefore, a large amount of companies will be investing moderately or heavily into this technology as they transition into full reliance on cloud technologies. Many of them are depending on the cloud to launch new business services or products, streamline their management and procurement activities and therefore provide applications and platforms to enhance information economics and analytics.

According to Forbes Magazine, some of the Cloud’s benefits that will be achieved:
· Top-line growth, collaboration among employees, and supply chain are the three areas enterprises expect cloud computing to impact most in three years.
· Developing new products and services, new lines of business and entering new markets are three key areas in which cloud computing is transforming enterprises.
· 58% of enterprises predict their use of cloud computing will increase top-line revenue growth in three years.
· 67% of enterprises say that marketing, purchasing, and supply chain are somewhat and mostly cloud-based as of today.

The cloud will eventually allow lots of companies to free themselves from the burden of having and managing complex IT infrastructure. The Cloud becomes more and more efficient and this means IT departments will be spending more time on strategic planning and not worry about infrastructures as they will be managed by third parties. Therefore, we can expect companies to benefit from lower IT expenditures as well as enjoying more robust cloud infrastructures, applications and data management services. The cloud will continue to evolve over the next few years and the demand in the market will continue to grow.  There is no doubt that in time, a very large proportion of worldwide companies, whether they are small, medium or large, will be reliant, in some way, on the cloud.
